The (not so) Great Debate

I have been looking for coverage but it seems like nobody really paid much attention to the debate, or nobody thought enough of it to comment.

Skeptical Brother has some good snippets for anyone who, like me, didn't get to see the thing.

First, let me address this nifty graphic that I found in South Carolina’s leading newspaper.

Why Is Anything Reserved Just For People With Money?

Have you ever traveled to a foreign country? Have you ever visited a spa for a massage treatment? Have you ever had dinner at a five-star resort, or flown first-class, had front-row seats at a superstar concert, been on a cruise, sailed on a yacht?

How many things can you name that only people who are financially well off get to experience? What is it that makes some people in this world more worthy better things than others? It''s not just lavish things like the above examples. There are some simple things that would relieve so much stress, like just having enough free time to relax, that only people with adequate financial resources can avail themselves.

Ask yourself this question, if you could have all the money you and your family could ever hope to spend; or you could make sure that everyone in the world had adequate food, clothing, shelter, and health care, which would you choose?

Congrats to the newest crop of Black Millionaires

One day these guys are going to get together and do something special with all that money.

No Duh

White folks have commissioned yet another study to confirm what Black folks already knew. But then they start it off with a dumb statement like Blacks, Hispanics and whites are equally likely to get pulled over by police. If that aint the most ridiculous thing I ever heard.

Minorities Fare Worse in Traffic Stops

Associated Press Writer

Black, Hispanic and white drivers are equally likely to be pulled over by police, but blacks and Hispanics are much more likely to be searched and arrested, a federal study found.

Police were much more likely to threaten or use force against blacks and Hispanics than against whites in any encounter, whether at a traffic stop or elsewhere, according to the Justice Department.

The study, released Sunday by the department's Bureau of Justice Statistics, covered police contacts with the public during 2005 and was based on interviews by the Census Bureau

Why Obama Can't Win

This is an interesting column by Alton Maddox, Jr., in the online edition of the Back Star News.

"Obama joins the ranks of Cong. Shirley Chisholm, Rev. Jesse Jackson, former Sen. Carol Moseley and Rev. Al Sharpton, who sought permission from the political establishment to receive the presidential nomination for the general election. They all failed. The white primary system and the Electoral College are designed to weed out Blacks, including Obama.

In November 2008, Obama will not be on the ballot as a presidential candidate. Ultimately, whites will keep the spirit of their “founding fathers” alive."

It's very odd. I don't necessarily agree with the conclusion, but I have to agree with every thing else he wrote.

Who Thinks Like This

Black folks forever trying to be insightful about black folks. Problem is, they trying to be insightful TO white folks. There are NO places in Black America today where getting an education, not having children out of wedlock, or staying out of jail is considered "Acting white".

This ridiculous claim has it's genesis in the truth that some people in the Black community have indeed been accused of acting white, but not because they were educated or spoke "proper" English, but because they took that education and that proper speech and proceeded to look down upon their community. We have always been exceptionally proud of the few of us that manage to make it somewhere through education or being industrious, or even just dumb luck. But we also are very hard on our people who "make it" and then look back at the communities they escaped from with disgust and loathing, rather than reaching back with a hand and eye towards helping someone else make it.

When psuedo-Black people make such ignorant statements about their own people, it can only lead me to the conclusion that they have rightly been accused of acting white. Not because of their educational or life achievements, but for their willingness to play the white man's game of blame the victim.
Ultimately, however, so long as the very conditions necessary for success in life -- getting an education, not having children out of wedlock, staying out of trouble with the law, and so on -- are perceived as "acting white," then the black community will continue to be plagued by the problems that McWhorter decries.

And Now A Word From Our Sponsors

The Buzzards of Business

Chuck D said this, and if you are capable of overstanding, it will clear up a lot for you. Go over to PE website and read the rest, buy and album, whatever. (Chuck D is the soul of the best hip-hop group ever, Public Enemy, for those of you who don't know him))

On the contrary the news reports of Lyor Cohen and Russell Simmons trying
to gather the hip hop current bangers for fixing hip hop's flat tire in
the light of anus, remarks - is like what? You go figure. These two,
I've known, have always followed the dollar and this time the desperation
could be off the fact the available dollar is no longer there for the
recording business as it was. Gone. And Russell and Lyor gutted and
cashed out their assets long ago. Now they wanna put out a bonfire with a
watergun. Sht, gimme a break. Buzzards. A buzzard is not a bad bird
they just capitalize on the dead. If NAS says hip hop is dead,
remember it can still thrive in a zombie state and spread dead spirit
like Rap of the Living Death.

Who is former Senator Mike Gravel?

An old white man who has obviously gone mad because he is saying things I would never expect to hear an old white former senator say. If Barak had said this, I would be working on his campaign tomorrow.

But Michelle Obama still has my vote, because I know she aint gonna let Barak bomb nothin!!

(H/T Crooks and Liars, I didn't see the debate because both kids had activities last night. Crooks and liars has two clips, neither of which put Barak in a very good light, both of which make Gravel look like the truth. A little spin perhaps?)

by far the most passion is coming from former Senator Mike Gravel of Alaska.  He had a few things to say about the people with whom he shared the stage:

"And I gotta tell ya, after standing up with them, some of these people frighten me!"

Stop Snitchin, Another Mainstream Misdirection

BIG H/T to Jack and Jill Politics for saying what I didn't have time or energy to say, and for this wonderful video.

This video, by the way, illustrates why we do not need to boycott FOX news or complain about their coverage. Dr. Marc Lamont Hill smacked Hannity and Colmes all over their own show. If we don't like what they are saying, then the few of us they do speak to need to set them straight at every opportunity.

BTW, for those of you who didn't know it, in the ghetto culture there is a difference from being a snitch and being a witness.

Make sure you go over to Jack and Jill and peep the comments.

She's Got My Vote

H/T to Skeptical Brotha, who says Mrs. Michelle Obama is almost enought to make him swing over the the dark side :)

I too consider myself a skeptical brother, But the sista sold me all the way. I am a sucker for an intellgent attractive Black woman. They could get me to do just about anything. I want to see this sista in the White House.

So Congratulations to Barak Obama, first on your excellent luck in being chosen by this fabulous Black woman, and second on winning over the Exodus Mentality, securing our enthusiastic endorsement and therefore assuring yourself of a victory in the upcoming election.

I have to say this also, in light of all the recent conversation about who is doing what to project the proper image of Black folks. This society puts out many more negative images of Blacks than they do positive images. But everyone sees a few positive images as well. It's then left to each individual to determine which image is the norm, or which image they would like to emulate. You an listen to or watch as much negativity as you want to, but one positive image such as the one portrayed by Michelle Obama should be enough to overcome all the nonsense and negativity. We need her in the White House as the First Lady, so anytime anyone needs to ask what Black women are like or should be like, she will be there as a shining example.

Guess Whose Children They Are Talking About

From CounterPunch

Just

The
Rights of Children in the United States

By SHARON SMITH

The U.S. is the only United Nations
member-state except Somalia that has neglected to ratify the
UN's 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child. In February
2001, George W. Bush explicitly objected to its "human rights-based
approach"-which, among other things, prohibits prosecuting
and incarcerating children as adults because their minds are
too immature to form "criminal intent."

Res Ipsa Loquitur

I'm not sure who gets credit for this inspired piece of video. I don't want to give Rush any credit he doesn't deserve. But it is his show, so since he would get all the blame he should get the credit too.

This is a really good piece of work. I know there are a bunch of people who are going to be highly offended by this, but that is so very short sighted. Get off your high horse for just a moment and look at it clinically. Rush's agenda is to drive as many wedges and holes into the Obama campaign as he possibly can. Rush is also big on maintaining white corporate control of the world, as he has so obviously benefited from the status quo. So people like Al Sharpton, who live to dismantle the status quo, must also be marginalized at all costs.

With this masterful video, and lyrics stripped straight from the headlines and set to a delightful children's song, Rush manages to b*#ch slap Obama and Sharpton with the same backhand! Any true pimp can't help but appreciate the form and award style points for the flourish at the end.

Not only should he not get in trouble for it, it may actually be deserving of an honorable mention at this year's Pimp of the Year banquet, or whatever awards show they do for radio.

We need to analyze it critically instead of emotionally, and LEARN something about those who work towards our continued subjugation. You have to recognize tactics to devise strategies to overcome those tactics.

HITTING THE GOD DAMNED NAIL ON THE GOD DAMNED HEAD

H/T to AfroNetizen for dropping the insight of the week. and for the video above.

Rushlimbaugh1
Rush Limbaugh's racist "parody" called "Obama the Magic Negro", is set to the tune of "Puff the Magic Dragon".

Will Clear Channel-owned Premiere Radio Networks (which also distributes Rev. Jesse Jackson's Keep Hope Alive radio show) cancel Rush's show? You're kidding me, right?

So, why was Imus sacrificed, but Limbaugh will likely prevail, you ask?

Discussion Diverted, Mission Accomplished

Just when I thought I was the only one paying attention, P6 comes through and restores my faith. They simply can't have you talking about anything that could actually help you, so they turn the discussion to something else. Something that will have no real effect on the status quo.
clipped from www.prometheus6.org

And that worked SO well...

"We are all complicit...let's not just single out the rappers," Obama said, noting that he had heard offensive words in many places other than rap songs.

Yes, he noted that. He heard offensive words 'around our dinner tables, in our barbershops, on our streets.'

The diversion of discussion away from those whose decisions polute the social environment to the bad behavior of Black Americans is complete. That's it. C ya (wouldn't wanna B ya).

I feel compelled to add just one more thought before the confusion reaches truly epic proportions.

There is a systemic dynamic in place that operates to maintain the status quo, especially in terms of the relative power of whites and blacks. It is well established that Blacks are basically powerless in the most important areas of economics and governmental power. Blacks control a small fraction of the wealth of this country, and despite our much touted consumer spending power, he retain little wealth from all that spending. There are Blacks in government, even our noteworthy candidate for POTUS, but they are mostly there by virtue of having sold out to corporate interests, or so marginalized as to be meaningless. In the face of these realities, it is ridiculous to postulate that there is this small group of Black entertainers who are shaping the face of Black culture and through this shaping the dominant culture.

If Blacks truly had the power to influence anything in this society, it would be the end of this society as we know it. If whites were not in power, if white privilege was not such a preciously preserved and protected thing, there would soon be no identifiable white race, as the phenotype of non-melanated skin is a genetic recessive trait. Without the power to create and enforce a caste system in this society, and to demonize, repress and keep non-whites, especially Blacks, from achieving real equality there would be even more intermingling of skin tones and cultures and the white race would simply disappear over time. Without the power to keep that from happening, there will be no more white race.

Now compare that Racism/White Supremacy dynamic to the current phenomena of hip-hop, where a few misguided Negroes say things that are potentially damaging to our communities. Because that's all any rapper can do. RAP. TALK. SAY STUFF. Maybe back it up with a little visual reinforcement from a music video. That's what rappers do.

Now ask yourself, between a system that needs to keep us down for it's own survival and a small group of mis-educated Negroes who sell music primarily to white folks, what's really behind anything negative that affects Black folks?
That's the only thing that matters in this discussion.
